About Me

I am a news-editorial major in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

When I graduate in May 2009, I hope to find a job that will help me grow as a reporter and writer. I also want to continue developing skills in video and photography as well as page design.

In three years at the University of Colorado I have heard much about the demise of the news industry. I respectfully disagree, and I am excited to meet the new challenges and rewards of this changing industry.

If you are interested in learning more about me and my qualifications please E-mail me at DixonTZ@aol.com and I would be happy to send along a resume and any other information you’d find helpful.

Fox, Stout lead MoHi over Gators; Coyote defense holds Standley Lake to 154 yards

ARVADA — Monarch’s two-headed running monster, seniors Sean Fox and J.D. Stout, were too much for Standley Lake Friday as the Coyotes muscled their way to a 17-3 win in a North Metro matchup at the North Area Athletics Complex.

Stout and Fox ran for 124 and 129 yards, respectively, to combine for all but 20 of second-ranked Monarch’s 273 yards.

Stout’s effort came in spite of being hampered by a high ankle sprain suffered in last week’s game against Prairie View.

“J.D. is only running at half speed right now,” Monarch coach Phil Bravo said.

It’s just one of the injuries plaguing Bravo’s team this season. Most significantly, senior star running back Brandon Vaughn tore his ACL against Cherry Creek two weeks ago. Vaughn is out for the season.

“The whole team has to step up,” Stout said. “Everyone has taken it upon themselves to do something.”

Stout credited the offensive line’s play for his two short-yardage touchdowns, including a 3-yard score with 2:52 left in the fourth quarter to ice the game. Monarch improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the North Metro League.

Monarch’s defense held the Standley Lake Gators (2-3, 0-2 North Metro) to just 56 yards in the first half and 154 yards total.

“We played real stingy,” Bravo said. “We held them to two field goals and luckily they missed one.”

That field goal, a 40-yard miss by kicker Dave Eden, was one of several missed opportunities by Standley Lake.

Down 10-0 going into the third quarter, the Gators forced Monarch into a three-and-out, then drove to the Monarch 15 only to stall and settle for a field goal.

Another Monarch three-and-out helped Standley Lake start with the ball in Monarch territory with 4:24 on the clock. On fourth-and-1 on the Coyotes’ 12, the Gators looked to pass. Quarterback Dennis Miller’s pass glanced off tight end Josh Misegadis’ hands.

Standley Lake never got another shot in the red zone as Monarch ran away with the game.
